First of all, this is for Windows Messenger…NOT MSN Messenger.

I wrote this because Jess asked me help her on auto signed in problem that she facing. Hopefully the information I sent her are helpful.

The Latest version is Windows Messenger 5.1. You can grab it from Microsoft Download Center but Validation Required…For Original and those Fake Original Windows XP only.

Auto Signed in problem

A lot people facing problem for auto login. Whenever you click the Sign me in automatically check box when signing in to ..NET Messenger Service, your .NET Passport name and password will stored on your computer. This allows Windows Messenger to sign you in automatically when you launch the program. However, You can delete this information to prevent being signed in automatically.

Please follow the steps below to prevent it to signed in automatically:

Windows XP Professional:
1. Click the Start button → Control PanelUser Accounts.
2. Click the Advanced tab, and then click Manage Passwords.
3. In Stored User Names and Passwords, click Passport.Net\*, and then click Remove.
4. This does not delete your .NET Passport, but it prevents automatic sign-ins.
5. Click Close, and then click OK.

Windows XP Home Edition:
1. Click the Start button → Control PanelUser Accounts.
2. Click the picture that is associated with your account.
3. Under Related Tasks, click Manage my network passwords.
4. In the Stored User Names and Passwords dialog box, click Passport.Net\*(Passport), and then click Remove.
5. Click OK, and then click Close.

Uninstallation

If you don’t like to have Windows Messenger on your PC, you can remove it by using below steps. Do NOT use Add/Remove Programs to uninstall Windows Messenger because it only helped you to remove shortcut from your view.

1. Click StartRun and key-in below command:

RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\inf\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove

Note: This will prevent a long delay when opening Outlook Express if you have the Contacts pane enabled. To prevent this, click 1. Click StartRun and key-in REGEDIT

Go to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Outlook Express

2. Right click in the right pane and select New, Dword value. Give it the name Hide Messenger Double click this new entry and set the value to 2.

*The information I grab from several sites and included my own knowledge.
